Beginning in the late 20th century, Black artists created scenes of leisure and interior life to assert an alternative visual presence to media representations of trauma in Black life. Join Leah Yeshitila for a discussion of her installation featuring renowned artists of this period. The installation features layered representations of Black men that center community, interiority, leisure, and the rituals of everyday life, with settings ranging from D9 collegiate fraternities to barber shops. The works in the installation are drawn from a gift of David and Jane Shapiro to the Harvard Art Museums.
