On this tour, Jide Anekwe ‘28 will look at the significance of color in the ancient Mediterranean world and at modern perceptions of the past. The stops on the tour are: Portrait of a woman, a painting from Roman Imperial Egypt (c. 130–150 CE); Youthful hero or god, a marble sculpture from Imperial Rome (1st–2nd century CE) after a Greek sculpture by Skopas from the fourth century BCE; and William Holman Hunt’s painting The Miracle of the Sacred Fire, Church of the Holy Sepulchre (1892–99).
