We begin with a 10-15 minute warm-up consisting of fundamental dance techniques, specific hip hop technique, stretching, and cardio. This is followed by a choreographed routine taught with patient and clear demonstration so all can follow. Different hip hop techniques are employed week to week so students experience a broad range of styles. Hip Hop Dance began at block parties in the Bronx in the 1970’s and drew from dance moves inspired by African Dance, Brazilian martial arts (Capoeira) and many Kung Fu movies. Bronx Rapper Afrika Bambaata drew from his experience watching African tribal dancing in creating the first group of hip hop dancers.
