Walking Tour: Constructing Nature in Harvard Yard

Join us for a special gallery talk that includes a walking tour! Graduate student teacher Ryan Schmidt-Knapik will first discuss the exhibition On Location: Drawing the Outdoors in the galleries before leading a walking tour on campus, where you will learn how to interpret and appreciate nature in our urban landscape. We will focus on exploring how plant form, function, and the history of non-native species introduction have shaped the biology of human-dominated landscapes. Led by: Ryan Schmidt-Knapik, Graduate student teacher and Ph.D. candidate in the Department of Organismic and Evolutionary Biology, Harvard University On Location: Drawing the Outdoors features drawings by J. M. W. Turner, John Constable, Gustave Courbet, Edouard Manet, Berthe Morisot, Paul Cézanne, and Vincent van Gogh, among many others. The exhibition is on view from September 18, 2026 to January 17, 2027. Funding for the exhibition and related programming was provided by the Stanley H.
